Please contact stefan@gaylanta.net for further details stating individual requirements.

Elephant Trekking

Meandering through the lush, green rainforest, perched astride one of these gentle, lumbering creatures is a delightful, alternative way to see the natural beauty of the island firsthand.
The elephants on Ko Lanta were brought here from the north of Thailand, where their work previously centered on the ability to carry large cargos over demanding terrain.  Each one weighs in at around 3 tonnes and a height of 2.5 metres when fully grown, with a life expectancy of up to 90 years.  Their diet consists of bamboo shoots, grasses, leaves and fruit - and if you’d like to make them especially happy, indulge their particular preference for bananas!
A variety of treks are available for all ages and abilities, from one-hour fun excursions to adventures deep into the tropical jungle.

Eco-Tours
Located on the island’s eastern coast, Tung Yee Peng villagers drive a project to preserve, and educate others about, the natural mangrove forest.  Operated in conjunction with the United Nations Development Program, GayLanta.net appeals for guests to donate generously when visiting, as all profits are returned to the local community to sustain their continuing efforts.

Cave Exploration
When the heat seems too intense, a welcome respite is guaranteed by investigating Ko Lanta’s natural caves.  Mai Keow, a five-to-six cavern limestone complex sits in the middle of the island and boasts a series of interesting chambers with rock stalagmites, stalactites and other curiously shaped formations.  Lesser-known Tiger Cave, situated off the National Marine Park road, is a further choice for an underground plunge into cool depths.  Stout shoes are advised for both locations.

Thai Cookery

Would you like to take home a holiday memento that will last longer than your suntan?  Want to impress friends and family with your mastery of exotic cuisine?  Thai cookery lessons are an amusing and easy way to learn not only Asian cooking skills and techniques, but a little more about Thailand’s culture and the emphasis placed upon sharing food.
Ko Lanta offers a choice of three cookery schools on the island, catering for all budgets and preferred styles.  Experiment – you may surprise yourself!

Waterfall Walk
Follow the wandering stream through verdant forest to arrive at the island’s own fresh spring-waterfall.  Bathe in the clear, cool waters of the rock pool and truly ‘get back to nature’.

Muay Thai Boxing
For a taste of authentic Thailand, visit one of the two mini-stadiums on Ko Lanta and experience the thrill of traditional Thai boxing.  Regular matches are held throughout the peak season, with competitors encouraged from all age groups and nationalities.

National Marine Park
Opened to the public in 1990, Mu Ko Lanta National Park is 134km² and comprises of 25 separate islands including Ko Lanta Yai.  The land is government-protected and its’ boundary extends through some of the most beautiful corals and mangrove forests ever seen.  The park is open year round and wildlife there includes Indian Civet, Wild Boar, Mouse Deer and Squirrel, as well as over a hundred different species of birds and several species of reptiles such as the Water Monitor.  With a wide diversity in oceanic resources, the eco-system here supports hundreds of types of fish and marine life including the Whale Shark and the Manta Ray, making this one of Thailand’s primary diving sites.

A working lighthouse is maintained annually by the navy and a small but impressively picture-postcard beach stands opposite the Park entrance.  The hiking trail winding its way up into the trees, takes roughly an hour to complete and is not overly difficult, although visitors are advised to bring their own water supplies.  There are Tents, Pitches and Rest Houses available for hire and a small restaurant open from 8am-8pm during peak season. Escape into the panorama and calm of Lanta’s' National Marine Park and indulge your senses.

GayLanta.net
– A Harmonic Approach

GayLanta.net is obviously aware of destinations within Thailand that particularly focus upon catering for the ‘sex tourism’ industry, and recognizes the differing tastes indulged.  It deviates from its’ associates however, by seeking to principally promote the island it adores to all travelers who value respect for diversity, and aims to specifically invite established couples and families, regardless of their sexual preference.

With the above in mind, GayLanta.net advises visitors that Ko Lanta is predominantly a Muslim island and requests that consideration for such is shown to the local community in matters of dress and behaviour.  Whilst nude sunbathing on public beaches is not permitted, GayLanta.net is pleased to offer private excursions to more secluded areas, where guests’ individual preferences are happily accommodated.
